Center for Global Health
The Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health is a unique collaboration between three institutions -- the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Medicine, and the School of Nursing – that harnesses the expertise of its dedicated health and medical professionals to address a myriad of global health challenges: HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, malnutrition, hepatitis and other threats to health, especially in developing countries.
Centro Evangélico de Medicina do Lubango (CEML) (Angola)
Evangelical Medical Centre of Lubango is a church-related health care institution and 40-bed hospital seeking to provide medical services for an estimated 50% of Angolans who currently have no alternative coverage. Ekpene Obom Hospital (Nigeria)
Began as a specialist leprosy hospital, we now also provide for more general medical needs. Medical students come here for workshops and to gain first hand experience of leprosy. Alongside the experience gained in the general hospital, this provides a excellent experience for their future medical career.

Hospitals of Hope International
Serves the poor in Vinto, Bolivia near Cochabamba. International rotations and and preceptorships for students with interest in missions and medicine at a level II hospital in Bolivia. Family Practice, Ob/Gyn, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Orthopedics, and Pediatrics. Typical rotations are from four to six weeks.

Hopital de Meskine (Cameroon, West Africa)
Medical electives available at this hospital, where work ranges from preventive health education in unity to curative procedures (e.g., strangulated hernia repair), C-sections, corrective surgery for leprosy patients, and physical therapy. Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre  (Tanzania)
Since 1997 KCMC has become a centre of medical training and teaching attracting medical resources from around the world. Christian ethic guides and shapes the College's daily work. Medical students in their fourth year of study or above are welcome to apply for a clinical elective period. English is the language of teaching and record-keeping but applicants should note that most patients only speak Swahili. Interns and residents wishing to do a clinical elective period may also apply. Kiwoko Hospital (Uganda)
Services approximately half a million people in an area roughly half the size of Northern Ireland, and annually treats around 23,000 outpatients and around 6,000 inpatients. Medical students coming on elective are welcomed: there is a lot of hands on experience in the hospital.

 Kudjip Hospital (Highlands of Papua New Guinea)
A 100 bed hospital that has treated 50,000 people as outpatients and admitted 4300 within this last year. We offer a medical student rotation to students with an interest in mission and tropical medicine. Positions are limited and usually fill about one year in advance. Affiliated with the Nazarenes

London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Training appropriate to public health workers in developing countries. MSc degrees available by correspondence. Scholarship and grants for studies in Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology, Biology & Control of Disease Vectors, Medical Parasitology. Overseas students accepted on the MSc courses in Immunology of Infectious Diseases, Applied Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, Infection & Health in the Tropics, and Virology, will automatically be considered for a Biomedical Initiative Training Award short course.


Machame Hospital (Moshi, Tanzania)
Machame Lutheran Hospital provides for Physicians and medical student rotations. We also seek long term medical professionals to join us in God's work here on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. We have a legacy of more than 100 years contributing to the health services in the country by running 20 hospitals and more than 160 primary health care institutions.

Mercy in Action (Philippines)  
- The School of Midwifery trains students to meet the health and spiritual needs of the developing world. No nursing background required. Students are exposed to the role of the experienced care-giver from their first day.
- The Mission Medic and Primary Health Care school designates the graduate as a mission medic and health educator able to serve in areas of the developing world where there is no doctor.

Mercy Ships

Mexican Medical Ministries
Each year we have a number of short-term ministry opportunities in our Medical Internship Programs, designed to provide practical experience for medical and nursing students who have completed at least one year of training. This an excellent way to explore ways in which the Lord can use your unique talents for His work.

Midwifery School 
Each student is heavily involved in other aspects of providing medical missionary care, not just to the physical body, but the spiritual as well. Outreaches included in the training. Four semesters and clinical rotations. Training in USA, Philippines. Final exam with the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) midwifery boards.

Mission Africa
Elective programs available at two local rural hospitals in Nigeria: Holley Memorial Hospital and Ekpene Obom Hospital (both are specialist hospitals where medical students come for workshops and to gain first hand experience of leprosy). Excellent opportunities.

Missionary Medicine Intensive 
A two week course designed to equip missionaries with basic diagnostic skills and appropriate treatments. above.

Mseleni Hospital (South Africa)
The largest mission hospital in Africa offers electives for senior medical school students. Contact Dr Victor Fredlund for more information.
Mukinge Hospital (Zambia)
200 beds divided between 7 separate inpatient wards for general medical/surgical, maternity (1,300 - 1400 deliveries a year), acute paediatrics, malnutrition, isolation, and TB. In addition, there is an an active out-patient department and numerous support services. Students interested in electives should contact enquiries@sim.co.uk.
Navajeevana Health Care Centre (email)
Medical and dental out patients clinic to especially low income groups in an urban setting in Dehiwela, Sri Lanka. Two to 8 weeks student electives program. We work to achieve excellence in primary care in a resource poor setting. Short term medical and dental volunteers also welcomed. Newlife International School of Midwifery
A Christian school for direct-entry midwifery students. Although our school is based on a U.S. curriculum and standards outlined by the National College of Midwifery the entire training is actually done in the Philippines. Most of our students are from the United States. Part of Mercy Maternity Center Program.
Roatan Volunteer Pediatric Clinic (Honduras) Not Necessarily Christian
A modern pediatric outpatient clinic within the Roatan Public Hospital, staffed year-round with volunteer pediatricians from the U.S., rotating on a 1 month-plus basis. Also, a structured elective rotation for pediatric resident physicians in their last year of training. Transportation and housing provided.

RUDASA (Rural Doctors Association of South Africa)

Rushere Hospital (Uganda)
We're located in situated in the Kiruhura District in Ankole, Uganda, about 20 miles south of the Equator. The hospital was opened in 1992, and following an extensive building programme has nearly 100 beds.

Scheer Memorial Hospital (Nepal)
This well-established facility is a great place for medical students, with one to three-month medical rotations and medical residency programs. Electives Possibilities. General, Orthopedic and Laparoscopic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics and Trauma, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology (B. P. Koirala Eye Institute), Physiotherapy, and Dentistry.

Selian Lutheran Hospital
A full-service referral hospital in Northern Tanzania offering externship and residency rotations of 1 to 2 months duration in tropical medicine and clinical parasitology. Open to medical students, residents and physicians, no age restriction.

SIM - UK
Each year SIM is able to arrange for medical students to take their elective in one of several SIM or EHA (Emmanuel Hospital Association) hospitals. During such an elective, there is opportunity to gain medical experience you wouldn't have in the UK while discovering first-hand about life in another culture. This site has listings for several such hospitals.

St. Anthony's Family Practice Residency (Oklahoma City)
Rotation program for 3rd and 4th year medical students, with an emphasis on Obstetrics.  Electives in tropical medicine, international health, etc.

Tansen Mission Hospital (165 beds, Kathmandu, Nepal)
Our excellent programme for medical elective students offers a 6-week minimum placement, allowing students to be involved first-hand in a setting very different than what they are used to. We also arrange medical placements at Okhaldhunga Community Hospital, situated in the Eastern hills of Nepal.

Valley Baptist Family Practice Residency Program (Harlingen, Texas)
We invite 3rd and 4th year medical students to join us in South Texas for a rotation in our Christ based Family Practice training program, in our clinic, on the hospital wards, and on our mission trips. Apply in August, interview in September, decisions in February. We cover interview costs!

Vital Links for Humanity
Spend up to a month at an OB/GYN, ENT hospital, or pediatric hospital in South East Asia, for hands on learning and teaching. Also, 2 - 3 week trips to Vietnam for lay people, medical, nursing, and dental students, and professionals. Teach and work at hospitals, orphanages, and schools.

World Medical Mission
The medical arm of Samaritan's Purse offers short-term opportunities for physicians, dentists and other medical personnel to volunteer in Christian hospitals and clinics around the world.
